Eh hem, these guidelines were made by Julieboo and are to be used so there are no contredicting opinions (that makes me sound intelligent) So follow these guildelines when creating characters, PM me, Sea of Darkness (duh) if you have any questions or comments. If you give me spam, I kill you, and feed you to my chimara, and give Frankie your heart. (Yes dont worry, I'll share the meat with my dragon.) This is still under construction and might be changed.
CURRENCY
Currency in Land of Light is fairly simple. Below is their name and their approximate value in US dollars.
Gold Peices ~ $100
Silver Peices ~ $10
Copper Peices ~ $1
Stone peices ~ 2 cents
They look sort of like Chinese coins, but with a circle in the middle. Animals usually don't use money at all, but elves, dwarves, humans, centaurs, and such all use the same system.
CENTAURS
Centaurs are half-horse, half-human. Their bottom half the size of a really, really large, usually muscular horse. Not as big as a unicorn, but big nonetheless. Their top, human halves are also a bit larger and more muscular than your normal human. They live in small nomadic herds. They are usually friendly and sociable, but are talented fighters. They greatly enjoy parties and feasting, and generally being in a good mood. They speak both animal and human, and often can use magic.
ELVES.
The elves are pretty simple. They generally live in the forest of Karia, rarely venturing out. Karia is dotted with hundreds of small independant elf villages called tribes (ie. Koria's Golden Leaf tribe.) The Land of Light elves are alot like the Eragon elves, usually look pretty much like humans, but sometimes have magical mutations like wings or tails or such. Nothing too extreme though. Elves aren't anthro.
DRAGONS (and riders)
(Brace yourself. this will be long.)
There are wild dragons, and riding dragons, those with riders. Wild dragons can either be solitary, or live in small or large clans depending on where they live. (ie Aurum's Sun-dance clan) Clans, often form rivalries as well. Wild dragons can become riding dragons, but once a riding dragon, they can -never- become wild again. But most riding dragons are born riding dragons anyway. Those born in captivity usually bond with their rider at birth, (like Taro) while wild dragons that become riding dragons do not.
Riders are almost always humans or elves. A few exceptions apply. Dragon riding though is not usually accepted into dragon, human or elf society, so unless the rider can find some why to hide their dragon, then the dragon usually lives a solitary life in the wilderness, away from other wild dragons, untill their rider calls them, or they call their rider. Sometimes a rider will even live in the wilderness with their dragon.
If a riding dragon's rider dies, it will find another riding dragon as a mate, and stay with them. A relationship between a riding dragon and a wild dragon, is not only extremely rare, but forbidden. (just like human-elf relationships.) In wild dragon society, the ammount of power you have depends on your experience and your treasure horde.
Land of Light dragons can be any color, and have four legs and wings* (yes, six apendages, i know it breaks a few scientific laws but so what.) They're main body can range from about the size of a male lion, to the size of the biggest size of Hummer, and the size of their wings and tail correspond.
* there are various kinds of dragons, some can have two legs and wings, also known as the Wvyrn, (which is a sub-species of dragons)
There are the classical four legs and sepreate wings also known
There are the psyadodragons (I dont care if its mispelled) Which are the size of a German Shepard (Also a sub-species of dragons)
You can have a dragon that wings connect the two front legs
You can have a dragon with no wings at all (Also a sub-speices of dragons called Lungs (the Chinese dragon), Knuckers, and Lindworms)
There are dragons that also walk on two legs with small front arms much like the dinosaur with small wings that can cause it to fly short distances.
MAGIC
There are four types.
Sorcerey or necromancy (sp?), wizardry or whitchcraft, alchemy, spellcasting.
Sorcerey-
the black art of calling dark spirits to do your bidding. Strictly a really naughty thing to do.
Wizardry-
the art of using spells, potions and magical artifacts like wands to do your bidding. Not one of these things can be alone. You must have a spell with a potion or a wand with a spell or a wand with a potion or all three. Though a spell can be put into a potion or wand and saved for later, but the magic will eventually run out.
Alchemy-
So similar to wizardry that they are often put into one category, but I say that they're different enough to seperate. It uses potions, spells and magical artifacts (mostly postions) just like wizardry but also incorporates astrology and astronomy, and utilizes the magical properties of geometric shapes. And on top of all that it has two universal goals, to find the philosopher's stone, a mysterious and powerful artifact, and the elixir of life which allows you to live forever. Alchemy is more of a scientific magic.
Spellcasting-
the most diverse of all the magic, uses either a language or state of mind or both to controll something, and uses your own energy. The magic in Eragon is a basic form of spellcasting with both language and mind. Elemental magic is a state of mind used to controll either water, earth, air or fire to a limited extent. Also included is shape-shifting, controlling another's body for a limited period, and any other such type of magic.
The boundaries between the four types is thin. Often one person is capable of more than one type of magic. Magic is a learned trait and not genetic, and most creatures can learn magic, but it is extremely, super duper, ultra rare in non-magical animals, hence the name "non-magical"
MERMAIDS
Two types. Freshwater and Salt.water
Salt.waters live in large groups called shoals, in the deepest parts of the ocean occasionally comming close to shore. They cannot leave the water for more than a few moments.
Mermaids hunt humans, elves and dwarves and eat their flesh, (No happy, fun-loving Arials here) the females are the hunters. (They eat some fish as well.) the salthingyer females have the top half of beautiful elf or human women, and the bottom half of a fish, or crustaceon, and gills. They use thier beauty as well as a form of spellcasting to lure men into some sort of trap, whether it be running a ship into rocks, or making them dive off the edges of their ship etc. The male salthingyers on the other hand have a much more fish-like appearance, and therefore do not do the hunting, but oversee the protection of the shoal.
Freshwaters (commonly known as water nymphs) live in lakes, streams, rivers ponds and swamps. They are usually solitary or live in small shoals. Ulnike salthingyers the freshwater females do not have the fish tails, but feet. They also hunt and eat primarally humans and elves, by lureing men to the shore with their beauty and simple spells. They have color changing skin to help blend in with their surroundings, and can go on land for as long as one or two hours. The males on the otherhand, like salthingyers, have a more fishey appearance, and since they are often solitary, they can hunt for fish on their own, but they probally won't be able to eat humans.
(Oh and Land of Light mermaids wear clothing, and not just skimpy little bras, but real clothing, unlike that wild and crazy Arial from the Little Mermaid)
FAIRIES
Faries are small, mischevious folk who resemble different types of insects and flowers they range anywhere to three to six inches long. They speak both human and animal languages and many can use magic. There are four diffenerent kinds.
Dragon Fairies ~ the most vicious type of fairy, resembling dragonflies. They are extremely quick, water-loving hunters, much like their namesake. They are usually solitary and usually do not mingle with other fairies.
Moth Faries ~ large, beautiful fairies that resemble moths and butterflies. They are usually peaceable, and live in large flocks in meadows, fields and forests. Although pretty little things, they have a vicious bite if provoked.
Bettle Fairies ~ The friendliest and most sociable of the fairies, they resemble a vast multitude of different kinds of bettles. They are usually live deep in the forest, in groups of varying sizes. They value knowledge and the arts and oppose violence.
Flower Fairies (or sprites) ~ sprites AKA flower fairies are the tiniest of the fairies, and resemble flowers. They often live among moth fairies, and are extremely curious, reckless little creatures. They are not the most intelligent, but extremely playfull and pretty.
UNICORNS
Unicorns are perhaps the most misunderstood creature of land of light. They are huge, powerfull, vengeful creatures, with a single razor sharp horn on their foreheads. From a distance they look like normal horses, but up close, their size and muscular build is astounding. They live in small, secluded herds usually deep in the forest, and will eat both plants and meat. They are not evil creatures, but dispise the company of humans, and most other species for that matter. They cannot use magic themselves, but if removed, their horn can be used by some wizards and sorcerers as a remedy for serious diseases. They come in normal horse colors, (no pink sparkles) and have the normal attributes of a normal horse, just twice the size, and with a killer horn.
DWARVES
Land of light dwarves are your pretty basic, normal, short, fat, gruff, strong-willed kind of characters. They live undergrund, in many different Dwarven Halls, made up of intricate mazes of tunnels. The greatest concentration of dwarves in in the Tunnels of Foron in the Rook mountains. Each of the Dwarven Halls is ruled by its own royal family. Their weath in the minerals and jewles that they mine in their tunnels could make them an extremely powerful race, but they choose to remain generally secluded from the rest of the world. They speak the 'human' language.
OTHER MAGICAL CREATURES
There are numerous other magical and non-magical creatures in land of light. The member-created ones can be found in the Creatures of Land of Light board, but those creatures that are not member-created include: trolls, gryffins, sea serpents, goblins, ogres, giants, and numerous other creatures that use and can be involved with magic. They usually speak both human and animal. Since these are more minor and rare creatures, I cannot do a bio for each of them, so for any information on them, PM Sea, or me (Julieboo.)
NON-MAGICAL CREATURES
There are extreme amounts of creatures in Land of Light that cannot (or at least rarely) use magic. Pretty much all the animals that exist in our world are the ones that are in Land of Light. They are so numerous that I will not even bother to list them, besides, you know what they are. They are pretty much the exact same as the real animals, and usually don't speak human. Again, If you need any clarification, just send a PM.
