Aurum bowed his head with respect, "Of course! I thank you for the honour to hunt with a cat-wolf such as yourself." He smiled. "The game however, as I recall were deer or elk or something with antlers.....I can never remember the difference with elk and deer, they both have a tender taste...well thats all I can recall of the large game here, I cant tell you the smaller game though, seeing that I have never hunted for somthing small around here anyways, but I would suspect it would be somthing like rabbits and hares...." He said looking at the landscape ahead. Aurum smiled and looked at Frankie, "Well then, were burning moonlight as we speak, I normally hunt around the border, but that could be tricky going there seeing that you cant fly...so perhaps we should stay close to the heart of the mountains as we are..." He said frowning a little.

((I didn't post this before? I should have... Oh, I can be such a ditz. She can fly. I was waiting for the right time to announce it too him, but I guess now's better than any other time. *shrugs* Yay! Wolfie form! *hugs it, thinking I really need to find a way to get rid of the fuzzies*)) At the words "you can't fly" an embarrassed look came over Frankie. "Well...." she said slowly, "actually...I can fly." The cat-wolf stood still for a few seconds, and felt her body change. It grew larger, and wings sprouted from her shoulders. Her sense of smell grew stronger, and she opened her olive-brown eyes. Most of her calico markings remained the same, only on a much larger scale. Gently, she flapped two ivory-white wings and rose off the ground, grinning at Aurum. "Ask me no questions," she said, "and I'll tell you no lies." It was hard to explain, her body, and the story of how it came to be. She hadn't been in her wolf form for some time, since her father's death. Being in it now made her feel so comfortable, sometimes more so than she did in her calico cat form. Feeling the wind under her wings was so calming, relaxing. She didn't fear those memories anymore, she realized. Of course, the feeling wouldn't last long, but right then, right there, Frankie really didn't care. The cat-wolf sighed happily, and looked at Aurum. "Well, like you said, we're burning moonlight. Please, lead the way." ((Oh, yes. Are you ever going to reply to Night of the Gibbous Moon on AL? I really want you too. It's like...my fourth or fifth favorite role-play.))

((You wont take me alive!))
Aurum blinked in surprise and laughed "Now I see why they call you a cat-wolf, of course...at first I thought it was merely a way to say your personality, but I was wrong..." He said, sitting up and stretching his large, golden scaly wings. He flapped them lightly a couple times so he was the same height as Frankie. "Well then, lets get going eh?" Aurum asked, beating his wings forward and moving his tail to steer. The wind blew harder as he flew at a fast pace over the mountains that look like mere hills at the distance. Aurum loved to fly, the cool wind in his face, blowing past his soft skin under his wings. Aurum flew and flew checking back occasionally to see if Frankie was still behind him.

Feeling the wind, Frankie could have laughed. Ever since she was a pup, she had loved flying, even more than she loved storms. Gliding gently, she followed Aurum, watching his every move, only slightly amazed that such a large creature could move with such grace in the sky. Occasionally she would look down, checking for any sign of movement, for even in her wolf form she relied on her nose. Grinning to herself at such stupidity, the wolf couldn't resist showing off a little, and did a loop-de-loop in the inky night sky. Frankie shot a careful glance at the moon, and thought about its place in her family's society. The moon was to be respected, and the dark side revered. Though her pack respected no gods or deities, they still enjoyed the moon. It was a symbol of beauty, and hope reflecting off the pristine snows of her homeland. Sighing softly to herself, Frankie flapped her wings once and moved up so she was flying side by side to Aurum, a little distance away to avoid his wings, still on the lookout for prey.
((Eeew, short post...Sorry.))

Aurum looked back at Frankie, and laughed along, he enjoyed flying, it felt like a dream, passing puffy white clouds in the day, and through the beautiful sparkles specks of stars in the night. Aurum let out a few playful sparks of fire and dived down through a cloud and spun back up again. Ah, the joy flying....

Frankie grinned at Aurum, and then she spotted her prey. It wasn't much, just a small herd of elk. She assumed they would need at least two, one for Aurum to eat (she assumed dragons ate quite a bit) and one for herself. She motioned to the great golden dragon to look at the goats, then said softly. "You have a plan for catching them?" It was merely a respectful way of saying "What now?" She didn't know if Aurum would simply burn the goats to a crisp, or if he hunted like a wolf, or a bird, or a human, or whatever. It was always good to have a plan.

Aurum circled around the elks pondering over a hunting plan. He looked down at the herd that was oblivious to the two carnivores over top. Finally what seemed like ages he said "Well, what we could do is you swoop down and chase them from behind," he said nodding down over to the herd from time to time before continuing "Then, when they are all running the same direction, I'll swoop down and snatch a few." He inspected his front claws and stretched his back hind legs. "Ready?" He asked.
((Ugh, uber short, sorry.))

Frankie nodded quiet acceptance to this plan, and then, without another word, swooped down. The stupid beasts didn't even notice her until she was practically right on top of them. They screamed in naked terror and bolted forward, Frankie teasing them consistently, even nipping flanks and grazing her claws on their backs. Tilting her head back, Frankie howled out to the skies. Her sound rose sharply, then slowly quieted, until she was fully focused on the elk, snapping and snarling, waiting for the dragon to take some away. The cat-wolf felt her blood racing, her heart pounding, and every inch of her thrilling in these seconds, this hunt. For the moment, she forgot everything - her father's murder, the murderer who swore to get his revenge on those he believed had done him a grave and terrible wrong. Every bad memory was swept away as she nipped the flank of an elk, and felt the warm gush of blood on her fangs. Smiling, she swooped over the herd briefly, then fell back to their rear, urging them on like a common farm dog and his cows. She glanced up briefly to look at Aurum, and grinned again, then turned her full attention to the herd in front of her.

Aurum laughed, ah the joy of the hunt. Gracefully he did a roll in the air and without a warning, dived down at a powerful and alarming speed. Aurum could hear the wind howl in his ears as he sped down toward the prey. About five feet from the elk the dragon lurched upward, outstretching his hind legs and crushing two elks with his powerful grip as he smashed them against the ground. Hearing the necks and ribs crack, the herd of elk scattered and left the two hunters along with their kill. Aurum folded his wings and grabbed one of the elks by the neck and shook it, to check if it some how managed the crushing blow. Seeing it did not, Aurum, somewhat satisfied lowered the elk to the ground and stepped off the other one. Looking at Frankie he wondered over the thought if wolves at the elks whole, bones, meat, and fur or just some...Shrugging to himself he picked both of them up, walked over slowly to Frankie and dropped one of them on the ground in front of her. "Well, that was quite the team work, normally I have to kill them all in order to eat but this time, I don't waste meat." He dropped the other elk and took a heaping bite out of it's side. Crunching the bones in his powerful jaws, he carefully swallowed.

With great relish and joy, Frankie quickly tore into the liver, snapping it down in a matter of minutes, then the heart. The rest of the organs followed quickly. She glanced around repeatedly, snarling, though not to Aurum. It was just so hard to believe that out here, she could earn the finest parts of the kill. Hearing a crackle behind her, she turned, drawing back her blood-stained maw, snarling in the direction of the sound, then almost laughed when she saw a bird leave its perch on a tree with a speed brought on purely by fear. Smiling, she dug back into her meat, still warm. While a good deal of blood found its way over her chest and face, she reckoned there would be a stream nearby to clean herself. She didn't say anything to Aurum, didn't even snarl at him, for the dragon had his meat, and she had hers. Eating this brought memories back to Frankie. Memories of her father. Pain tugged at her heartstrings, and she cried out in horror. She remembered the first time Fang had brought her a haunch from the kill. She had been little then, though not too young to attempt to devour the food bones and all. Fang had laughed, and had encouraged her when her siblings, the other pups from Fang and Light Stream's litter, attacked and attempted to steal the haunch. They all ended up with a nice large piece, and Fang intervened long enough to take the bone to chew. Frankie shook her head and looked at the carcass in front of her. Coincidentally enough, she had been eating from the haunches. Frankie stared at the meat in shock, but before she could begin to cry, she began to eat again, eating with a determination. She barely tasted the meat, just focused on swallowing and not crying like a little pup denied the milk of his mother. She only hoped Aurum hadn't noticed. I'm alright, I'm alright, there's nothing wrong with me, I'm just a wolf on an outing, I'm alright, I'm alright.

Aurum had glanced from time to time around at his cold winterly surroundings and continued digging into his second elk's rib cage, crunching at small bones and licking the warm, red blood from his snout. He noticed just then that Frankie looked quite different from the last time he glanced at her, before she was carefree and cheerful, now she looked like it would be her very last meal. thingying his head slightly his curiosity for his friend's change in mood drove him on "Are you all right my friend, you don't look happy anymore, what's wrong?" He was slightly surprised by his sudden compassion but he remembered his clan and the memories of his dearest daughter, Zhen, who was so far away made him think about his own life. Who knows, Zhen and her mother could be dead by now, or eating away at prey as he is. He sighed, if only he could see them again, so far away....

Frankie stared at Aurum as though he had just begun to curse at her in foreign tongues. Should she tell this dragon, who was practically a stranger, about her father's murder and her quest for revenge? She didn't even have to think about it, and so she did the only other thing that she could. She lied. "Nothing's wrong, Aurum. I think a piece of meat disagreed with me, is all." Flashing a false smile in his direction, she returned to her kill and finished off what she could eat of the meat. There was hardly anything left, and what was left would soon be picked away by scavengers. But still, there were the bones. With a look of pleased anticipation that almost hid her sadness, Frankie took one of the larger bones and lay down on a rock with it, gnawing it to get to the delightful marrow. Her ivory fangs flashed as she chewed on it. She must look a strange sight, she mused. A large, winged calico patterned wolf with blood all over her front, reflecting on her past as she gnawed a bone. This thought didn't stay with Frankie for long, and soon, pictures of her father again flooded through her head. She said nothing, but did let out a barely audible sigh, which, had it been able to be heard, could have been mistaken for one of contentment. Father had a particular fancy for the bones of the kill. He had been the one to show Frankie how to chew a bone, for she had simply tried to scarf it down like the rest of the meat, and as a result, almost choked. As it were, she had gagged and spat the bone onto one of her siblings, and had gotten into a squabble with them. She had won, tiny calico kitten though she was, but she suspected that her sibling had taken it easy on her. Afterwards, while instructing her in the art of bone-gnawing, Father had talked to her about her family. Frankie half-smiled. She had been a curious pup, eager to know everything about her pack. "Why is it so cold here?" "What does the asagyntha mean?" The asagyntha was the symbol-rock that stood just outside of the Antha Pack lands. On it was a carved sun, stained with berries found in rare spring months, which stood for Sun-Life. A pure white fang stood for the current alpha male, Fang, and a flowing stream of white stood for Frankie's mother, Light Stream. Other, dead, alphas had been scratched off of the rock, though they were still visible to the wolves, who used them as a sort of 'history' to teach the pups. Of course, now Father's name would be scratched out as well, taking his place among the deceased great leaders. And it was all Frankie's fault.

Aurum licked his razor like teeth clean of blood and gave a pleased growl. Ah the joy of food. Aurum remembered the very first time he showed his daughter how to hunt. How sweet and honorable she was, making sure she was glutness and gave her prey the upmost respect. That moment had made Aurum very proud indeed, most fully grown dragons didnt show that much mercy for their prey even now. The memory made him smile. His beutiful daughter, Zhen, who knows, she could be fully grown now...Oh oh Zhen. She was the first egg to hatch out of the entire patch. Even though early eggs is a sign of a weak heart, Zhen was as strong as any dragon chick. Aurum stared at the horizon once more and out of his curiousity asked Frankie "Did you have any family?"

Frankie attempted to smile at Aurum, but the effect was a grotesque imitation of happiness. Her eyes clouded over with brooding thoughts, and the cat-wolf was silent for a long while. Yes, she did have a family - two families, if you wanted to be specific. Which family should she speak of? The wolf family that had rescued her from death and given her love and something to strive for in life, or the calico family that had given birth to her, and surely loved her, as any mother loved her children. Or both? That would probably be even more confusing. "I... I-I..." This time she couldn't help it. She quickly changed into her cat form, and a few tears slipped out. Shrinking down as close to the ground as she could, Frankie stared resolutely at her paws, watching as teardrops splattered and darkened the various spots of colour. "It's a long story, Aurum." Still staring at her paws, her sad tone was a shock to her. Forcing herself to sit up, she began to tell her story, unbidden except by that curious question. "I was born to two calico cats. I must have had brothers and sisters, but I don't know them or remember them. I don't even remember being a baby. My pack told me about my family later on. Sometimes I think I remember, but I'm not sure... "My parents were murdered by a traitor to my current pack. He was a wolf-dog hybrid... His name is Cartherian, and I hate him, I hate him, I hate him! I'll kill him if it's the last thing I do! Before I die, I will see his festering corpse be eaten by maggots!" Frankie's fur stood on end, and she let out a queer sound, half-hiss and half-growl, rich with the hatred she spoke of. Her eyes seemed to spark with electricity. Despite her being so young, it was obvious her words were sincere. After a few seconds, she settled herself, and glanced briefly at the dragon in apology. She picked up her tale with a strange grace, and the words began to flow from her again. "My parents were friends with my pack, the Antha pack. The head she-wolf believed that Cartherian would attack my family in revenge for some 'crime' committed by Fang, the current head-male. She and several members of her pack moved as quickly as they could to where my family lived, close to Kin'tiac'la'nec where the Antha pack resides, but warmer, and greener. However, they were too late. My parents' bodies were strewn on the ground, and even a few of the wild creatures had been killed. A fox had been ripped open and a few of the insides eaten. I was the only thing alive in that graveyard." The cat-wolf looked as though she would like to throw up everything she had just eaten, but she shook her head. "The head she-wolf, Light Stream, she ordered the wolves with her to take me back to the burrows they lived in, and place me among her most recent litter of pups, who were still older than I was. Even though Light Stream was fat with milk, she still ran all the way to my old home. I don't know what they did to feed the puppies in that time. But that's irrelevant. I was taken to the packlands, and I grew up with the wolf pups, who became my brothers and sisters. I learned from them, and to this day they are my greatest friends. Out of respect to my parents, they kept my name, Frankenkitty, which my parents had given to me. They shortened it to Frankie, and some of my siblings would call me Qutiyana, which in our old tongue means 'Little Patched Wolf.' Sometimes they'll still call me that, as it was the only nickname I was given as a pup - or kitten - but for the most part, I am Frankie. "I grew up, happy and healthy, though I still have nightmares, though nobody knows why. When I was deemed old enough, my 'new' mother, Light Stream, and my 'new' father, Fang, told me of my parents and their murder. I wasn't so old as to form hate in my heart, but I was shocked. The truth hurt me for weeks, months, even, and my family was worried that after all I had been through, I would die of horror. I lost a lot of weight during that time, but finally I came to accept it and grew back into myself. "Fang... My new father... And Light Stream. I love them so much. They saved me from death, so that I might live and be of use to the world. I owe them everything, and I always seem to come up short. They always would tell me that there is nothing I should thank them for - but there is! They deserve all, and I ... I love them. And Fang, he was... He was my mentor, and I was always by his side. He taught me how to hunt as Light Stream taught me to be just and fair, to be kind and wise. Light Stream taught me to be a good wolf, but Fang. Fang taught me to be the best wolf. And for that, well, it just makes me so happy. "As wolves do, I left the pack one day, and explored on my own, but every time I left, I would come back. And one day I came back with news. There was a sorceress, who could turn me into a wolf - though not completely, which allows me to shift my forms, as you can see. Some of my family and friends went with me to the sorceress, and then, I became a wolf, with these most beautiful wings. While not common, among some wolves, for reasons unknown, wings became a feature. I didn't expect it at all. It just happened. "Well, days came and went, and I had a few sets of adventures, when one day Mother told me that somebody had kidnapped my father, my Fang. I agreed to go and rescue my father. It was a long journey, but it was all in vain. It was... It was Cartherian who had taken my father, and before my very eyes. I saw him kill Father. I was with him the second he died. Oh, nobody can know that pain, to watch as your dearest friend died right before you. It hurts me more than anything. It's my fault. I should have managed to stop Cartherian, and kill him. But I didn't, and Father died because of it. I just... I..." Frankie found she couldn't tell any more of her tale. Sighing, she looked at Aurum, pure love for her family reflected in those expressive eyes of hers. "I am sorry, Aurum. I didn't mean to tell my life history, and certainly not to somebody I just met." Another silence from the cat-wolf, and then, "I suppose, to sum it all up... I might have a family... I had two, and now it seems I may have lost them both. I don't know Aurum." Frankie shook her head. "Have you a family?"
((I'm sorry. That was insanely long. *goes and hides in corner* It wasn't supposed to be so long.))

((0.o *gasps for breath and rubs eyes* Ow...That was looooong, goodly but loooooooooooooooooooong....))
Aurum looked at the cat-wolf with understanding eyes and paused, letting Frankie's past sink in with him. He looked up and his eyes clouded over with grief, "I had a family, at first, hopefully I still have them, but now...Now I dont know what to think. I once belonged to the Sundance Clan, a clan of dragons, for a while, Nicium was clan leader, and I suppose he could have been my adopted father...I have no idea where I came from but for as long as I can remember Nicium was and will be my only birth family. I thought he would remain clan leader for a century or so, he was strong and intelligent, until one night, did a clan outside of our own slayed him and I became the leader...Our-my clan was...Weakend after that and was barely surviving the attack. So we tried to move to a safer land. One the journey I fell in love with a beutiful dragon called Kiun, the love of my life, we shared a nest and had several eggs, I...Only got to see two of them hatch...The first and the eldest was Zhen, my daughter, as kind as her mother and as beutiful. Then there was Thought, my hotheaded son..." He paused and smiled. "He reminded me so much of myself at his age...Then...Then as we moved, another battle merged, The Blackheart clan, they wanted all of the Sundance clan's hatchlings for their own, they snatched my dear friend's chick and one of the Blackhearts was heading right for Kiun's other eggs, I remember I tried to run to them but then, then everything...Everything faded, when I awoke, I wasnt where I was before, all of the dragons were gone, I flew and circled that entire land, from to the mountain tops, to the sandy shores of the beach, nothing. Absolutly nothing. I gave up. I gave up hope. Completly, I stopped, and I thought all was lost. And now, now my family, is gone, I dont know whether their slaving away at the Blackheart's camp, hiding somewhere over the horizon, or dead. How could I...I, could have set patrols to stop the raid, or something, now my own kin will grow up without knowing their own father, or they might not grow up at all...I dont know...." He shook his head. If they were alive, his precious chicks could have hatched thinking that the Blackheart clan was their home...
